Fancied, an Australian based dating App, has been moving in quickly on the dating scene and hopes to make it easier for Australians to find a date this Valentine’s Day! Having only launched in September last year, the App already boasts thousands of mutual ‘fancies’ nationally, and was nominated as Top 10 finalist for Startup of the Year by Shoestring Media, and for a MOBI Award in the Nightlife category.

Entrepreneur Christie Sharpe, the Founder and CEO of Fancied, stated “We are thrilled with the results and have 60% engagement on the app, this is mainly because users are getting matched by people they mutually fancy.”

Thanks to the rise of mobile dating, Gen X and Y users have now ‘opened their hearts’ (#boomchh) to testing out the market and have made it socially acceptable. Sharpe adds, “Fancied is about finding mutual connections made easy in a social environment – We don’t just show you who you can meet, we also show you where the best places are to meet based on your location.”

There are two ways you can find your perfect match on Fancied. Firstly, by searching through singles profiles, and secondly, by checking into a local venue listed as a Hot Spot.

The geo-location gives the user a safer opportunity to meet their match at a recommended bar, or alternatively, motivates singles to step out of the house and socialise as they can see which ‘Hot Spots’ to saunter over to.

The Fancied team have launched a new blog ( which explores all aspects of dating and meeting people online. This light-hearted blog is perfect for dating advice, lists funny dating experiences and different ways to approach your love life. The step-by- step guide to the perfect New Year’s Kiss helped ease users into 2014 and is set to help singles navigate through the Aussie dating scene.

Fancied is available for free from the App Store on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch or at:

Australia’sHottest NewExport TakesThe Title!, Australia’s hottest online dating and social networking community, today announced cinematic siren, Margot Robbie as the 2013/14 Sexy Australian of the Year.

Here at Dating 101 Sydney we have had a massive girl crush on Margot Robbie ever since being invited to the premiere of the Wolf of Wall Street. It is great to see Aussie talent making a splash state-side whilst putting in a stellar performance.

Anyone who has been the film will understand why Robbie was always going to take out the top spot in this year’s awards!

The blonde bombshell sizzles and her chemistry with DiCaprio is electrifying.

Here is the Top 10 in all its glory:

10 – Mitchell Johnson

Sporting the sexiest Aussie ‘mo since big Merv Hughes was throwing leather, Mitchell Johnson has destroyed the English cricket team this summer and in doing so, helped Australia win back the Ashes. In fact the speedster’s form has been so fierce he’s just been awarded the Allan Border medal. A pretty Aussie way to open the Sexy Australian of the flamin’ Year. Well done, Mitchell!

9 – Melissa George

She’s come a long, long way from her days on Home & Away, that’s for sure. Not only is Melissa George rocking Hollywood, the 37-year-old actress is still rocking one of the finest bodies on the planet. We were reminded of that when she starred in this year’s hottest advertising campaign, Agent Provocateur’s raunchy on-set meltdown video. The outfit covering George’s phenomenal curves has to be seen to be believed.

8 – Sam Worthington & Lara Bingl

Well if you haven’t read about it in every gossip magazine in the country, Hollywood heavyweight, Sam Worthington has shacked up with Lara Bingle. Worthington is of course known for starring in blockbusters such as Avatar and Terminator Salvation, while Bingle is best known for… well she’s known for all sorts of things really, the latest being Sam Worthington. All we know is that they make a very, very attractive couple.

7 – Travis Fimmel

Not content with his sex symbol status after his legendary Calvin Klein underwear campaign, Aussie heart-throb, Travis Fimmel has again caused hot flushes throughout the world. Fimmel has landed the lead role in the hit History Channel series, Vikings. Playing Norse legend, Ragnar Lothbrok, Fimmel fights, pillages and sleeps his way through new lands and straight onto the Sexy Australian of the Year list.

6 – Jackie O

She’s the aesthetically pleasing half of Australia’s most successful beauty and the beast pairing. Radio hostess with the mostess, Jackie O has always matched her stunning looks and charm with wit and grace, qualities that have served her well throughout a tumultuous 12 months. 2013 saw the dazzling DJ and her ever controversial partner, Kyle Sandilands jump ship from 2DayFM to their new home at Kiis 1065. We, like so many others, will be making the switch!

5 – Ricki-Lee Coulter

Australia’s hottest diva has lived up to her title of Sexy Australian from a couple years back! Her film clip for Come and Get In Trouble With Me featured the sultry songstress naked atop a white horse. What did it have to do with the song? Who knows? Who cares?

4 – Liam Hemsworth

The younger of the Hemsworth bros has had a massive 2013. The brooding brother of Thor star, Chis Hemsworth, Liam has had a lot on his plate of late, including making the smash hit sequel to The Hunger Games, and breaking up with the increasingly bizzaro, Miley Cyrus. Don’t worry Liam, we’re sure the ladies of RedHotPie would be willing to keep you warm at night.

3 – James Packer & Miranda Kerr

Sure, nobody knows if this rumoured super-hook-up is actually happening or not, but so powerful would this union be, we’re just rollin’ with it! Able to buy Brangelina with pocket change, James Packer and Miranda Kerr (or Jaranda as we’ve dubbed them) would be the ultimate Australian celebrity couple. Money, power and beauty, they have it in spades; well, James looks a bit like Mr Potato Head, but being a billionaire bachelor is a helluva aphrodisiac!

2 – Kylie & Dannii Minogue

For years, the Minogue sisters have represented Australian sexy with aplomb; Kylie with her disco rockin’ hot pants and Dannii with her flirtatious smile and sizzling magazine spreads. Now, a little older, but every bit as desirable, the girls are both back on our screens here and in the UK. Dannii has been bringing the truth on X Factor, while Kylie is about to join The Voice. All this action can only mean we’ll be seeing more of these ever-green beauties, and that’s fine by us!

1 – Margot Robbie

Ex-Aussie-soap goddess, Margot Robbie is one of our sexiest exports, but more importantly she’s the 2013/14 Sexy Australian of the Year! Her seductive and sultry charms alone are enough to land at the pointy end of our Sexiest Aussie honours, but mix in her breakout role along side Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street (which includes some eye-popping horizontal tango action) and you’ve got yourself a salacious juggernaut of sex appeal! Congratulations to Margot Robbie, the Sexy Australian of the Year for 2013/14.

Here is the trailer if you haven’t seen it yet to whet your appetite! You can also read my review on Sydney Social 101 here

Here at Dating 101 Sydney, we’re always on the look out for new dating venues to explore!

There are going to be MANY posts on here about dating bars, venues, festivals, activities and stories (of course!). To whet your appetite, here’s the first one of 2014 – Happy New year!

Some of Australia’s best-loved bands will be rocking Bondi Beach this Summer as the music line-up for Ben & Jerry’s Openair Cinemas is announced. What’s not to love about listening to music under the stars with your beau… exactly!

Bringing music by day and movies by night to the world’s most famous beach until March 2, the Sydney leg of the nationwide tour commences on Friday January 24 with a showing of ‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ with indie-popsters Lime Cordiale playing live.

This Australia Day, don your Akubra for the first Ben & Jerry’s Sundae Session in the series. A bonza afternoon of entertainment awaits as Franky Walnut will be taking to the stage before a screening of the Aussie classic ‘Crocodile Dundee’.

February 2 promises to be the highlight of the season as Jinja Safari who are known for their energetic live shows and their dreamy folk pop will be headlining the Sundae Sessions Charity Night. Spearheaded by effervescent frontman Marcus Azon and Pepa Knight, the five-strong band wielding African, Indian and indie inspired sounds will be performing tracks from their self-titled debut album before a screening of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.

The support act billing is up for grabs as Ben & Jerry’s are on the look out for brilliant bands to play alongside Jinja Safari. To get involved and find out more visit

Throughout the rest of the series cinemagoers will be able to experience the soaring vocals ofLouis London, the signature blend of rocking-roots and country-blues from JR Reyne andJordan Millar’s acoustic-pop. Plus Iluka, Little May, Anabelle Kay, Ben Gumbleton, Ollie Brown, Melody Pool and Bec Sandridge will be showcasing their vocal talents.

As always, the Sundae Sessions events will feature free Ben & Jerry’s ice cream for all as well as a host of fun lawn games – where the much loved Putt Putt and Pick a Pat will be joined by a new addition, Giant Cow Jenga! Bean loungers and deck chairs are available for maximum comfort as guests settle in to watch the cinema proceedings. And what’s more, all proceeds from ticket sales to the February 2 event will go towards WWF’s marine turtles initiative.

If that wasn’t enough, guests will be able to enjoy the perfect ice cream accompaniment as Ben & Jerry’s will be serving up their latest new flavour ‘Scotchy Scotch Scotch’.  Created in honour of the beloved Ron Burgundy, the TV news anchor with a penchant for all things Scotch. This creamy concoction of butterscotch ice cream with ribbons of butterscotch swirl – is sure to have everyone saying, “I love Scotch. Scotchy, Scotch, Scotch! Here it goes down, down into my belly!”

Doughboy will be on hand providing tasty fare for cinemagoers and a selection of delicious drinks will be available at the bar.

The full film program for Ben & Jerry’s Openair Cinemas is now available online and includes an array of family favourites, retro classics and all the latest and greatest new releases.

We’re back and have a whole host of tales (and lessons) to share…

After being single for over a year, I feel like it’s now time to get back ‘on the horse’ so to speak… I’ve peered from afar as my friends grab the dating landscape by the horns and put themselves out there on Tinder, Plenty of Fish and etc (myself included!).

Suffice to say that a variety of stories have been the result and I have another chapter in the story that is my life (and that of my anonymous friends)!

From low key TV stars that leave their date at a pub quiz on the first date with their mates (after all of 10 minutes) to Spanish lotharios who proclaim their undying love and send song lyrics… yes song lyrics!! “the sun is shining, the weather is sweet yeah!” – bring an all new meaning to talking about the weather… only to then disappear off the face of the earth. To ‘Mr loves himself’ who sent pictures of his face three times a day, each in a different outfit and location… no words! Plus plenty more!

So buckle up, take a deep breath and let dip our toes back into the dating landscape and share the tales of the dating disasters, successes and all that’s in between.

SOCIAL SPY** Deshabillé & Pink Hope Blogger Lunch

In light of Angelina Jolie’s revelation today, there has never been more prominence to charities like Pink Hope x

Sydney Social 101

Yesterday Sydney Social 101 had the absolute pleasure of attending the Deshabillé Blogger Lunch at The Village, Gold Room in Potts Point.

Sydney Social 101 was in great company with 15 prominent bloggers from in and around Sydney. We were invited to the hot new Sydney bar, The Village in Potts Point to celebrate the collaboration between Deshabillé and Pink Hope.

We were joined by Deshabillé founder Roslyn Gleave and Pink Hope founder, Krystal Barter who talked to us about the collaboration and what we can do to help!

Deshabillé has joined forces with Pink Hope- Australia’s first community that provides accredited information and support for young women and their families who have a high risk of breast and/ or ovarian cancer.

Even better, you can shop with a conscience as with Deshabillé’s Pink Hope range, 50% of all proceeds will go to the charity.

Throughout the lovely lunch…
