The verdict is out!

Following a succession of innovative and original entries, Drambuie is delighted to announce ‘The Dispensary’ as the triumphant winner of THE PREMISE 2011 competition


Victorious eastern suburbs winners Matilda Swan (23) and Simon Connett (24), created their vision for a trendy apothecary inspired bar, thanks to Drambuie’s rich history in folklore as a medicinal elixir.

“As the Drambuie story goes, Bonnie Prince Charles Stuart requested the Royal Apothecary to develop a mysterious elixir of expensive, rare, and delicious herbs and spices to keep up his hopes and strengths during battle” says Simon. “The idea of creating a traditional apothecary, with a modern twist, evoked powerful design qualities for us, as well as tying in perfectly with the Drambuie story. Our bar will be a stylish and exclusive dispensary, set in a spectacular location that is designed to attract Sydney’s elite, where the Drambuie elixir can be tasted, savoured and dispensed once more.”


The fit out will marry Drambuie’s classic style with modern elements to achieve a unique and sumptuous effect. Dark recycled woods, supple leather bound club chairs and traditional apothecary style cabinets invite relaxation. Further decorative touches include customized medicine drawers, recycled chemist bottles, traditional glass jars, mortar and pestles and old-world scales to complete the atmosphere of opulence.

“We want to showcase the intricate details and ambience of ‘The Dispensary’ throughout the drinks menu also, with a selection of delicious Drambuie cocktails featuring fresh herbs and fruits” Matilda adds. “Many of these herbs we want to hand grow in the bar itself to stay true to the rich traditions of apothecary. Each of these exclusive concoctions will be versatile, making them perfect for both the cooler or warmer weather on stunning Sydney Harbour.”

My 100th post! A toast to me :)

So this is my 100th post yiippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! What better way to toast the success of my blog than with a glass of stunning sparkling wine? (That was a rhetorical question, there is no better way!)

The timing was perfect for the guys at Noseys to invite me along to a wine tasting at Oxford Street’s Sol Lounge. I decided to take along my lovely friend Sally, always better to share the love I recon!

Shock horror we were late (I really need to work on my punctuality!), actually I blame Sally, ha! We just missed the briefing, oopppps! But arrived just in time for the tasting – woop!

Now for those of you that want to be in the know, Nosey is one of these new breed of wine distributors that provides a tailored bespoke service. Imagine that perfect glass of wine, one that you’ve picked from a boutique winery, delivered right to your doorstep. Well, at you can now choose the best wines to relax with after a long day or to drink while enjoying your favourite meal with your favourite people.

Noseys owner, Bas Hegge advises that he was fed up with bricks and mortar bottle shops and their methods in grouping their wines. So, he launched Noseys, an online retailer with a unique categorisation system which makes it easier for consumers to select a wine.

The website shows nine categories (Bubbly, Fresh, Mellow, Rich, Rosy, Blush, Smooth, Deep & Sweet). The wines which are part of each category share the same characteristics i.e. aromatics, big on flavour, sophisticated, good for a sunny afternoon or a perfect match for a certain meal. Easily identifiable by the sticker on the bottle top symbolising the category in which the wine belongs; customers can use Noseys to compile a range of bottles from various categories for their drinking pleasure.

All the wines from are tasted and selected by Bas and go through a customer tasting panel for further evaluation. Similar styles of wines are grouped together making it simple to browse through and select similar wines. also encourages consumers to leave their feedback about the wines offered. If a wine gets consistently bad reviews, it’s quickly removed from the portfolio and replaced by other wines recommended by Noseys customers.

Through Bas Hegge intends to share both his passion for wine as well as some tasty tipples with fellow Australian consumers.

To celebrate the launch of the new Stoli Global Casting Call, Stoli Vodka’s bartender, Luke Ashton, is showcasing his creativity in the best way he knows how – by creating Stoli Australia’s most original cocktail. Dating101Sydney was there to go along for the ride.

Luke was set the challenge by Stoli to create a cocktail like no other – a drink that epitomises originality and encompasses the elements of the Casting Call competition, a worldwide search for creative individuals that will see one lucky Australian and a friend flown to LA for the trip of a lifetime. Once in LA, they will attend the exclusive Stoli party at the Playboy Mansion and experience a bold and daring zero gravity flight on the fringes of space with Zero G.

Luke has spent weeks behind the bar concocting a cocktail masterpiece – the Stoli Supernova.

Luke says; “Everyone expresses originality in different ways. For me, I express my creativity through the drinks I make. With the Stoli Supernova, I wanted to create a drink that is visually spectacular and illustrated the weightlessness of a zero gravity flight, but also had a flavour profile that was truly original.”

To create the Stoli Supernova I’ve combined chilled Stoli Original and the chocolate spirit Mozart Dry with gellan to create a fluid gel, and then poured cold Cherry Tea Mix over a large Ice Globe. This creates suspended red drops and swirls through the clear liquid to give the illusion of weightlessness in the cocktail as the red drops float throughout the drink. It’s spectacular to look at, and it tastes delicious as well!”

Just turned 30, Luke’s approach to bartending is truly original, and in June he was announced as the winner of Stoli Vodka’s national search for its first ever ‘Original’ bartender. Since then, Luke has worked with Stoli on the Original Fund Initiative, and now brings his expertise and creativity to the Global Casting competition.

From September 1, until October 15 2011, Stoli fans and original thinkers can visit the Stoli Vodka Australia Facebook page enter the Stoli Original Casting competition to prove you are a Stoli Original. Ten finalists chosen by the Stoli judging panel will be asked to upload a video showcasing their originality, and fans will have the chance to vote for the winner. The ultimate real Stoli Original will be announced on November 29 before jetting off to LA at the beginning of 2012. With a friend, they will be the only Australians to join others from across the globe to experience this amazing adventure!

Chambord® Shine AwardsTM Ambassador Gracie Otto launches the 2011 winning dress by An Ode to No One with a stylish cocktail party at Seduce last night


Off I trotted to the Chambord® Shine Awards, as Seduce and An Ode to No One celebrated the launch of the winning Chambord® Shine AwardsTM dress with actress and filmmaker Gracie Otto last night at Seduce’s flagship store at ivy. The limited show stopping red silk dress is now available in Seduce stores nationally for $239.95 and will be available in seductive black late September. Other Seduce clothing BTW is to die for! I could’ve literally spent my whole pay cheque!


In 2011 Chambord® proudly partnered with Seduce Australia, one of Australia’s most established affordable luxury design houses to offer the winner of this year’s Chambord® Shine AwardsTM An Ode to No One the opportunity to have their winning design produced and retailed on the high street.


At the showcase event, Setiadi unveiled a personally designed window display for the An Ode to No One for Chambord® dress that was an element of his prize for winning the 2011 Chambord® Shine AwardsTM. Inspired by the luxury and prestige of Chambord®, Setiadi has worked with AZBcreative to create a contemporary and edgy window display that will feature across all Seduce stores for a full month from today. For the window display, AZBcreative has collaborated with revered Australian Artist Dion Horstmans who has custom created a number of one off pieces reflecting his current geometrical shadow work. Having worked in film for 15 years in the art department making props and a now full time Bondi based artist, Dion Horstmans has helped Setiadi bring his incredible visions to life. The 3D sculptures in the windows are made from gauge steel rods with exaggerated fluoro orange elements. This interplay of space and shadow works beautifully with actual fluorescent orange tubing creating an installation where Ode To No One’s hero garment will stand within. Like neon rays of light the dramatic window will highlight the strength and modernity of Adi’s design.


The launch was celebrated in style with Chambord® cocktails including their signature classic the French Martini and new cocktails the Metropolitan and Chambord, Cloudy Apple & Lime, which were UNREAL! We were treated to the culinary prowess of Sweet Infinity serving canapés including risotto balls with corn and ricotta and smoked salmon on coute with crème fraiche.

May I just say that The Cupcake Room created sensational Chambord purple, gold and black cupcakes which were sooo tasty! Good for the lips, not so good for the hips! 🙂

100 Squared launches its Spring Summer Collections…and two new locations!!!

Ok, Saturday mornings I love love love wandering along Oxford Street in my home suburb of Paddington. The markets are home to some of the most stunning craft stalls you’ve ever seen and Fringe Markets is host to an array of up-and-coming Sydney fashion designers.

So I’m sure you can imagine how excited I was to hear that 100 Squared Emerging Designer Market is launcing its Spring Summer campaign on Thursday the 8th of September from 5pm, at their CBD store. AND… that it will be host to a number of these innovative desigers, scream. Here are some of them to name but a few:

Mok Theorem
From humble beginnings, sisters Grace and Gloria Mok turned their backs on their corporate careers with a vision to create a fashion label unlike the next. A number of existing designers – Love & Luck, Recreational, and Charlotte Dawson favourite Mok Theorem – will welcome the new additions of Show Pony and OMG Style to the 100 Squared family. The Spring/Summer season also sees the return of Australian favourite Coco and Rogers.

In an ever-challenging retail industry, the distinctly different theatrical retail concept of 100 Squared, is going from strength to strength with founder Justin Levy launching two new sites later this month at Westfield Bondi Junction and Westfield Miranda, accommodating 12 new designers.

The unique nature of the 100 Squared shopping experience gives consumers all the essence of a marketplace, but with the trimmings of a boutique store. Levy’s vision is to continue providing a point of difference for shoppers, whilst supporting Sydney’s emerging talent with more locations to choose from and increased access to consumers.

VOGUE VIP: Vogue Australia premiers its fashion-forward smart phone app

Soooooo excited for Vogue’s fashion night out!

As part of a million-dollar marketing campaign promoting Vogue Fashion’s Night Out, Vogue Australia will be launching a free, fashion-finding, location-based iPhone application entitled VOGUE VIP.

Available for free download from iTunes, Vogue Australia’s application debut will position loyal readers at the forefront of Australian fashion by delivering expert tips and premium offers on shopping and fashion. It’s the latest step in Vogue Australia’s journey to become the most influential fashion presence in social media and online communities complementing its brand positioning in publishing.

Using location-based technology, VOGUE VIP allows users to find and check-in to Vogue-approved Sydney retailers and unlock specials that consumer can only access via the app. The VOGUE VIP social networking component allows users to connect and share and to compete with friends for VIP status.
